Kengo Suzuki, Representative Director and CEO of Space Seed Holdings Inc. (“SSHD”), paid a courtesy visit on August 10, 2026, to the Regional Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA) of Gorontalo Province, Republic of Indonesia, where he exchanged views with the head of the agency, Dr. Wahyudin Athar Katili, S.STP, M.T., and other senior officials.

Suzuki was accompanied by Ananda Setiyo Ivannanto, President Director of PT Awina Sinergi International, which runs renewable energy and environmental solutions businesses in Indonesia. On the provincial side, Dr. Katili was joined by officials responsible for research and innovation, infrastructure, and regional development. The discussion brought together officials from multiple departments and focused on how new industries could be developed in Gorontalo from the province’s own regional resources.

Participants
Participants from Gorontalo Province (Regional Development Planning Agency, BAPPEDA)
– Dr. Wahyudin Athar Katili, S.STP, M.T., Head of BAPPEDA
– Other officials of the provincial government
Visiting Delegation
– Kengo Suzuki, Representative Director and CEO, Space Seed Holdings Inc.
– Ananda Setiyo Ivannanto, President Director, PT Awina Sinergi International

Background
Gorontalo Province lies in the northern part of Sulawesi and is a major producer of corn, coconut, and other crops. Facing Tomini Bay to the south and the Celebes Sea to the north, it also holds rich fisheries resources alongside its agriculture.
During the meeting, the two sides shared their understanding of the issues at hand: how to add further value to the primary products grown and caught in the province, and how to make better use of resources that currently go unused, agricultural residues among them.
Gorontalo also has a track record of working with Japan. The province and Ehime Prefecture have been cooperating at the local-government level, mainly in environmental fields such as decarbonization and waste treatment.

Summary of the Discussion
Ivannanto of PT Awina Sinergi International outlined the regional challenges facing Indonesia and Gorontalo Province, along with a broader concept of how new businesses could be created to address them.
Suzuki explained SSHD’s approach to raising the value of primary industries and creating regional industries by drawing on fermentation and other technologies that Japan has refined over many years. The exchange centered on three themes.

Adding Value to Agricultural and Fisheries Products and Building a Regional Brand
Processing technologies, particularly fermentation, can turn the province’s primary products into higher-value ingredients and finished goods. The participants discussed how this could also help establish Gorontalo as a recognized place of origin.

High-Value Utilization of Agricultural Residues
Residues from corn, coconut, and other crops can be made into biochar. They can also serve as feed ingredients for poultry and other livestock, provided the material is properly processed and its safety is assessed. SSHD proposed exploring this route.

Extending the Model to Fisheries
The same thinking behind feed production and fermentation-based processing can be applied to aquaculture. The participants discussed the potential for a regional resource-circulation model that links agriculture with fisheries.
These proposals share a common objective: to convert as much of the region’s unused resources as possible into high-value materials and products within the region itself, and let that give rise to new industries, jobs, and income.

Next Steps
The visit was a courtesy call and an exchange of views. Specific areas and forms of cooperation will be discussed on an ongoing basis with the Gorontalo Provincial Government and related organizations.
SSHD will continue to apply science and technology to raise the value of regional primary industries, put underutilized resources to productive use, and help create new regional industries, both in Japan and overseas.
