From the Beatles’ “” to Thundercat’s “,” there’s a long tradition of musicians writing odes to their pets. But not many have devoted an entire album to a beloved animal as Tujiko Noriko does with her latest, “PON.”
Released last month by Editions Mego, the album is dedicated to the France-based singer’s late cat, Ponpon. Tujiko, who uses Japanese name order as an artist, adopted him as a kitten after finding him abandoned on the street.
“I took it quite seriously,” the 49-year-old says, speaking over Zoom from Paris, where she’s taking a rare break from parenting duties. “I became a bit obsessed with this cat, like a crazy cat woman.”
