The world has entered a “new dark age of abuses,” with the United States “raining death” on Iran and Venezuela, a U.N. special rapporteur said Thursday.

Ben Saul, the United Nations’ special rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, said the war in the Middle East would not improve global security.

“We have entered a new dark age of abuses in the name of countering terrorism,” he told a news conference in Geneva.
