North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected a “newly inaugurated nuclear materials production factory,” state-run media said Thursday, as he looks to continue building up his country’s weapons program at “an exponential rate.”
Touting the North’s capabilities, the official Korean Central News Agency quoted Kim as saying that his country’s “weapons-grade nuclear materials production capacity more than doubled” over the last five years — and that, following “an important consultative meeting for bolstering up the nuclear forces,” it was time for even “larger plans.”
Kim “made an important conclusion clarifying the action guidelines for rapidly accelerating the qualitative and quantitative strengthening” of the country’s nuclear forces, saying that the expanded nuclear production capacity and development of “sophisticated” nuclear technology “create a mature environment for going into the new next-stage of bolstering up the nuclear forces and … offer the possibility of carrying out larger plans.”
