When Leveth Jackson, 40, got a letter to renew her contract for her apartment in August, she was frustrated. It was the second?straight rent hike at the end of a two-year renewal cycle.
The first one was a ?2,000 ($12.50) bump two years ago. Now, her landlord wanted to increase it by ?5,000 more.
If Jackson accepts the renewal contract, the rent for her two-bedroom apartment she lives in with her husband and daughter in the city of Yoshikawa, Saitama Prefecture, will have been raised by more than 10% from ?65,000 to ?72,000 in the course of four years.
