U.S. President Donald Trump has asked Chinese leader Xi Jinping if he would like to buy American weapons, the United States’ ambassador to Beijing revealed in a television interview Sunday.?
“President Trump continues to say, ‘Hey, we sell arms to other people around the world,’” U.S. Ambassador to China David Perdue said on “Fox News Sunday” while discussing Xi’s closely watched state visit to Washington last week. “He actually asked President Xi, would he like to buy some at one point.”
Perdue did not elaborate on whether the offer had come during Xi’s recent visit, during Trump’s trip to Beijing in May or another time. He also did not mention if the Chinese leader had responded.
