A member of the Japan Innovation Party (JIP) has joined Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s Cabinet for the first time in the recent reshuffle, drawing it deeper into the administration.

Yet former party leader Nobuyuki Baba said the JIP’s alliance with the ruling Liberal Democratic Party will last only if both sides keep delivering on their agreed-upon policies.

“Just because you get married once doesn’t mean it will last forever,” Baba, a six-term heavyweight and now a JIP adviser, said in a recent interview with The Japan Times.
