U.S. President Donald Trump said he is open to holding a trilateral summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi Jinping, but that any meeting would focus on nuclear issues — not the war in Ukraine.
Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday that such a meeting would be “based on denuclearization,” after a report said Putin had proposed an unprecedented three-way summit to talk about how to end the 4?-year-old Ukraine conflict.
“I would do it, not so much for Ukraine, because Russia, frankly, has been fine on Ukraine. They haven’t been doing much,” Trump said. “We would have it to talk about nuclear weapons and denuclearization.”
